Analyzing the Yankees 60 Man Player Pool and a Few Other Things:

As I have been going through the Yankees 60 man player pool I have noticed several things. Let’s dig in and take a look at them!

Predicting Yankees' 26-man roster, starting lineup: Miguel Andujar ...

As you know all 30 teams had to select 60 players for them to use this year. Here’s where to find the Yankees:

I will look at them position by position and talk about surprises.

Let’s start with the RHP’s the Yankees Selected:

I instantly see a few major surprises. Miguel Yajure for 1. He’s not even considered MLB ready yet.

Clarke Schmidt being on this confirms his #5 spot in the rotation. Especially with German gone for the year due to his suspension. That’s 15 starts for Schmidt to make. He’s gonna be a great one.

Another Surprise is the flame throwing Albert Abreu.

Deivi Garcia is no surprise. That was expected. As was Mike King.

There’s a few more surprises as well but a very good group.

LHP’s the Yankees Selected:

My7 1st reaction is ONLY 7? Surely they need a lot more. HOWEVER these are the only 7 above Single A right now. YIKES… NO wonder they draft 9 LHP’s last year. NO real surprises here either.

Catchers the Yankees Selected:

Everything expected here. Little surprised Josh Breaux didn’t make it but not surprised of this list.

INFIELDERS the Yankees Selected:

MATT DUFFY? Where did he come from? He was not with the Yankees in ST… WHAT THE? Could depth piece but not a 30 man player. Mike Ford was fully expected as he’s the starting 1B. Boone loves him that much. Interesting list though.

OUTFIELDERS the Yankees Selected:

Almost stunned that Estevan Florial made it. I thought he had a chance but would fall short. Herrera is no surprise to me due to being a switch hitter with tops in the game defense and really good pop in his bat and he raked in ST.

Now I will move to my best guess as the Yankees 30 man. I will take everything into account.

Rotation:

  1. RHP Garrett Cole
  2. LHP James Paxton
  3. RHP Masahiro Tanaka
  4. LHP J.A. Happ
  5. RHP Clarke Schmidt

I just see the Yankees going Schmidt of Gumby who has yet to prove a thing post surgery. Gumby maky not even make the 30 man.

Bullpen:

  1. CP: LHP Aroldis Chapman
  2. SU1: RHP Adam Ottavino
  3. SU2: LHP Zack Britton
  4. MR: RHP Chad Green
  5. MR: RHP Tommy Kahnle
  6. MR: LHP Luis Avilan
  7. LR: RHO Jonathan Loaisiga
  8. LR: RHP Luis Cessa
  9. LR/MR: RHP Mike King
  10. LR: LHP Jordan Montgomery
  11. LR/MR: RHP Adam Warren

Yes I see 11 BP arms. Yes Warren is now healthy I think makes the team for the rest of the season and next. A deep pen that will help win 40+ games EASILY!

Batting Order:

  1. 2B D.J. LeMahieu
  2. RF Aaron Judge
  3. SS Gleyber Torres
  4. 1B Mike Ford
  5. LF Giancarlo Stanton
  6. C Gary Sanchez
  7. CF Aaron Hicks
  8. DH Miguel Andujar
  9. 3B Gio Urshella

This is by far the most likely lineup. Yankees love Ford’s left power bat for lineup balance. Andujar is the obvious DH until traded for Hader (I and several experts fully expect this trade to happen!). A absolutely loaded lineup.

Bench:

  1. C Kyle Higashioka
  2. OF Mike Tauchman
  3. OF Clint Frazier
  4. 1B Luke Voit
  5. INF Thairo Estrada

No Brett Gardner? HOw the hell does he fit smashed deep behind 6 other OFers with Andujar going not get OF time? The Yankees don’t need a terrible, aging 37 year old OFer with 6 far younger guys on the roster.

This is a deep bench nonetheless. Tauchman will get plenty of time as will Voit. Frazier should nsee plenty of LF and DH AB’s as well. Andujar will get time at 3B, DH, and LF. Such a versatile group of players.

Based off this roster, here’s my 60 game AL East Standings again:

  1. Yankees 45-15* –
  2. Rays 33-27 12
  3. Blue Jays 32-28 13
  4. Red Sox 25-35 20
  5. O’s 16-44 29

The Red Sox only luck is having the O’s in their division. The Rays are not near as good as people think and will prove it. The Jays are ok and will be a WC team in the new 8 team per league playoff format.

There you have it. Let’s get to it baseball! Let’s play and go get WS Title #28 Yankees!
