This is a odd topic. The MLB changed balls to ones that had seems even with the leather of the ball. As such it greatly reduced drag and increased ball flight up to 50′ depending the arch of the ball. (NOTE: Please donate at Cashapp: TopSportsMind to keep my amazing content coming.)
This caused MASSIVE HR spikes across the game. Its alarming. Lets dive in and look at what it caused. I have adjusted some for emphasize this by taking the average HR distance the 5 years before the juiced balls year and applying them to HR’s in 2019. I dropped them a different footage depending on the arch and such. A high arch projected to end up 50+’ shorter. A rocket line drive around 25′ and ETC.
Pete Alonzo: He allegedly hit 53 HR’s is rookie year. I adjust that to around 45 as he was credit for a several HR’s that were either foul or didn’t actually get out. When I factored in The average increased ball flight and took out the HR’s that would’e stayed in the yard with the regular balls, his total dropped to 28 HR’s. YIKES…
New York Yankees: They hit a incredibly impressive 310 HR’s (I count the 4 HR’s off Yankees bats that were HR’s but not ruled as such!) while calling home ONE OF THE MOST HR FRIENDLY PARKS in the game. I did adjust but it only fell to 283. Took 19 from Gardner, 5 from Gio but not many from elsewhere. Still by a land slide would be the MLB record.
Minnesota Twins: They literally IMPOSSIBLY hit 307 HR’s while calling home one of the most NON HR FRIENDLY parks in the game. When I adjusted for non juiced balls that total dropped all the way to 227… THAT”S 80 BOGUS HR’S! WOW…
Houston Astros: They hit a IMPOSSIBLE 283 HR’s in a HR friendly park they called home. I say impossible as when I adjusted for juiced balls their total fell to 177… THAT’S A UNBELIEVABLE 106 HR DROP! Yordan Alvarez’s total fell all the way to 7 HR’s…
L.A. Dodgers: They hit a new team record 279 HR’s. Impressive? Maybe… When I adjusted for juiced balls their total fell to 251. Not an alarming drop as with the Yankees.
These are the teams that topped the Yankees MLB record from 2018 of 267 HR’s in one season… 5 teams, FIVE! This is impossibl! Baseball couldn’t have gaffed worse on this one. Baseball is supposedly going ball to the juiced balls and should. I haven’t even talked about the pitchers ERA’s screwed over by this either. What a complete and utter mess…
