The Yankees are in trade talks around the industry for certain pieces in attempts to fix this team for the playoff run. Lets take a look:
Lets start with 3B:
Start with this article outlining the Yankees plans for 3B:
https://www.mlb.com/news/yankees-rumors-latest-trades-and-signings
The Yankees already added a 3B in SWITCH HITTING Jemier Candelario:
A solid, ZERO RISK, ALL REWARD move. Great move for those reasons.
Even after this great move, they are still in trade talks with the Rockies on 3B Ryan McMahon, and the DBacks for Eugenio Suarez:
AND
While the Yankees are very concerned with McMahon’s current 0-23 funk, they still love McMahon and believe they can fix him and quickly. They also feel it a very low risk should the Rockies eat enough of his contract.
As for Eugenio Suarez, while the Yankees and DBacks are talking, no progress yet as the DBacks still believe they can compete.
Outside these 2, no other targets really BUT… The Yankees did show interest in the Pirates 3B Ke’Bryan Hayes:
Interetsing as Hayes is no better then, and nowhere near as good as what they already have in Candelario and far worse then McMahon or Suarez.
Starting Pitching:
Due to the recent TJ diagnosis on RHP Clarke Schmidt, the Yankees have absolutely ZERO CHOICE but to add a SP this deadline.
Itsa very, VERY weak market for SP BUT… RHP Sandy Alcantara is sitting there waiting to be snapped up on the cheap:
As YardBarker says, he’s a perfect fit between ACE LHP Max Freid and LHP Carlos Rodon in the Yankees rotation and brings a veterans presence and an ACE regaining his form.
MLBTR recently held this poll on weather he should be traded or not:
Everyone still believes he should be traded. EVERYONE!
For those that couldn’t see the pole here’s the results:

That’s almost 88% saying he should be traded.
The Yankees and Cubs have long since be favoraites to trade for him and word right now is the Yankees are the favorite due to Schmidt’s pending TJ.
Outside Alcantara its dead silent for the Yankees and SP. They are calling up STAR Pitching Prospect Cam Schlitter to strat tomorrow or Wednesday:
A great young arm, throws high 90’s Regularly and will touch 100+ MPH a few times a game as well.
They also have Luis Gil retruning soon BUT…
Are those 2 enough to fix the rotation alone?
Major, MAJOR doubts remain……
Thus they must add a SP like RHP Sandy Alcantara and ASAP!
Due to RHP Mitch Keller’s extremely high Price Tag:
There’s almost no chance the Yankees try for him.
RELIEVERS:
The Final position the Yankees are looking for is MULTIPLE Relief Pitchers. So who are they looking for?
Well… The obvious ones for starters in:
- RHP Ryan Helsley (Cardinals),
- RHP Kyle Finnigan (Nationals),
- RHP David Bednar (Pirates),
- RHP Felix Bautista (Yankees traded with the Orioles before to get Zach Britton),
AND EVEN….
5. LHP Aroldis Chapman (RedSox)
After them its the little known arms like Reid Detmers for one.
This is one where I can see the Yankees pulling a surprise on us for a good relief arms.
Here’s a some more linked to the Yankees:
- LHP Aaron Bummer (Braves)
- RHP Jake Bird (Rockies)
- LHP Mason Fluharty (Blue Jays)
- LHP Caleb Ferguson (Pirates -YES HIM AGAIN)
- RHP Peter Fairbanks (Rays)
- RHP Kenley Jansen (Angels)
- RHP Emilio Pegan (Reds)

So who do I believe the Yankees get?
Well now that they have SWITCH HITTING 3B Jeimer Candelario, 3B is a bit alieviated BUT… I do still see them agging another 3B and BY FAR most likely remains the Rockies Ryan McMahon.
I believe they land RHP Sandy Alcanatara for A SP.
As for relievers, and being that they need 2+, I see 1 LHP adn 2+ RHP’s. I will start with David Bednar as the Yankees have eye’d him for years. He’s the one I can say this about. Then I see Reid Detmer’s as most likely for a LHp followed by Aaron Bummer of the Braves. Then I can see Felix Bautista, and Kyle Finnigan after that.
BONUS:
2 players to keep a very, VERY close EYE ON are Angels SS Zach Neto, and Whiote SOX OFer Luis Robert JR as the Yankees are poking around on them as well these days abd will be making offers to their teams (Angels, and WhiteSox). We’ll see what happens.
