As I have been looking over the Yankees roster, several holes pop out INSTANTLY! Also I notice its not near as bad as people think once the cancerous players (PLAYERS WHO ARE DOING MORE HARM THEN GOOD TO THE TEAM BY BEING ON IT) are removed.
I will look at realistic moves in FA and t he offseason trad market’s. Send out prospects and players with NO FUTURE AT ALL with the Yankees.
1st lets take a look at the lineup and the holes there in:
- C – Jose Trevino = Weak but livable.
- 1B Anthony Rizzo = Okay if healthy
- 2B DJ LaMahieu = Just Fine
- 3B ??? NO MLB CALIBER 3B = MASSIVE, MASSIVE HOLE
- SS ??? NO MLB CALIBER SS = MASSIVE, MASSIVE HOLE
- LF ??? NO MLB CALIBER LF = MASSIVE, MASSIVE HOLE
- CF ??? NO MLB CALIBER CF = MASSIVE, MASSIVE HOLE
- RF Aaron Judge = LOCKED AND LOADED!
- DH Giancarlo Stanton = Good to go
Several just glaring, MASSIVE, MASSIVE holes that have to be addressed ASAP!
How about the Rotation?
- RHP Gerrit Cole = BEST IN GAME! LOCKED AND LOADED!
- LHP Carlos Rodon =Great once he gets going
- RHP Clarke Schmidt = okay
- LHP Nestor Cortes = good if he’s going
- ??? NO MLB CALBER STARTER HERE = MASSIVE HOLE
The Rotation must be addressed.
Now for the BULLPEN:
- CP RHP Clay Holmes
- SU1 ??? Peralta hitting FA= MASSIVE HOLE
- SU2 RHP Mike King = PERFECT IF HEALTHY
- MR1 RHP Tommy Kahnle = GREAT IF HEALTHY
- MR2 Johnathan Loaisiga = OKAY OIF HEALTHLY
- MR3 LHP Nick Ramirez
- LR1 RHP Scott Effross
- LR2 ??? WHOI FILLS THIS SPOT?
As you can see the BULLPEN must be addressed ASAP as well!
Now for the MINIMUM of a 4 man bench per 26 man roster rules:
- INF/OF Jake Bauers = great
- INF/OF Waldo Cabrera = very good if going
- C/INF/.OF Austin Wells = should be great
- C Ben Rortvedt = Great
If this is it, its actually pretty good. Most likely doesn’t need to be addressed.
Man do moves need t o be made. Who do I sign in FA?
- LHP Josh Hader for 5 years on a incentive laden deal starting at $5 Million up to $20 Million if every incentive threshold is hit
- LHP Blake Snell for 6 years with base starting at $10 Million up to $30 Million per if every incentive threshold is hit
That’s it. No other FA’s fill Yankees needs. Yes I know about Julio Urias but the Dodgers aren’t letting him go. Matt Chapman bats RH and by all accounts the Yankees have no interest there. So many LEFT HANDED HITTING OFers but not one fits the Yankees and what they need right now.
As for Shohei Ohtani…
The Yankees payroll is about to drop to $179 Million when FA opens. They have 18 arb eligible guys. They won’t get more then $20 MILLION COMBINED once Torres and Higashioka are sent packing, due to injuries and such! Some will be traded, NON TENDERED or released (AT LEAST 10 I AM TOLD). Then the Yankees payroll will be around $189 Million when FA opens INCLUDING ARB. Yes buying out Donaldson helps as well.
ALL THIS SAID…
Should the Yankees really sink $50 Million+ per year, into one player when they have so many needs around the diamond and a DH already? Should they raise the Salary to around $240 Million with one player and block any more additions? Its just not happening! Ohtani’s a lock for the Dodgers!
MOVING ON…
We add in the $15 Million for the Hader and Snell signings and its $204 Million.
Now I trade for Juan Soto for LF and Ryan McMahon for 3B. Here’s these deals (YES THESE ARE REALISTIC AND EXPECTED):
Yankees Get: OF Juan Soto (With incentive laden extension staring with a base of $20 Million UP TO $40 Million per if every bonus threshold met)
Padres Get: OF Everson Pereira (Yankees #3 Prospect), RHP Drew Thorpe (Yankees #5 Prospect), INF Anthony Volpe, and 1B Tyler Hardman (Yankees #18 Prospect)
AND…
Yankees get: 3B Ryan McMahon (Under contract THROUGH 2028 for $15.5 Million per and a 2029 option)
Rockies Get: 3B Andres Chaparro (Yankees #13 Prospect, OF Estevan Florial, INF Jared Serna (Yankees #8 Prospect), and RHP Clayton Beeter (Yankees #10 Prospect)
2 very solid trade’s for much, MUCH need assets. Also believed very, VERY likely moves around MLB circles even if the packages very what my proposals here.
Then I call up Trey Sweeney for SS and Jasson Dominguez for CF. Here’s the lineup now:
- 2B DJ LaMahieu (R)
- CF Jasson Dominguez (S)
- RF Aaron Judge (R)
- LF Juan Soto (L)
- 3B Ryan McMahon (L)
- DH Giancarlo Stanton (R)
- 1B Anthony Rizzo (L)
- SS Trey Sweeney (L)
- C Jose Trevino (R)
So deep and far, FAR, FAR more balanced.
Yankees Payroll after this to around $240 Million (REMEMBER INCNETIVES NOT COUNTED TILL EARNED)
That said… I remember Salvador Perez asking to be traded to the Yankees if traded at this past trade deadline. Thus I make an offer and try to get him. Say…
Yankees get: C Salvador Perez
Royals Get: C Kyle Higashioka, INF Oswald Peraza, RHP Will Warren (Yankees #7 Prospect), INF Oliver Dunn (Yankees #31 Prospect) and OF Brando Mayea (Yankees #10 Prospect)
Great trade both ways! Gives the Royals MUCH NEEDE D DEPTH AND YOUNG GUYS!
THUS THE LINEUP IS NOW THIS:
- 2B DJ LaMahieu (R)
- CF Jasson Dominguez (S)
- RF Aaron Judge (R)
- LF Juan Soto (L)
- C Salvador Perez (R)
- 3B Ryan McMahon (L)
- DH Giancarlo Stanton (R)
- 1B Anthony Rizzo (L)
- SS Trey Sweeney (L)
HOW LOADED IS THAT? WOW! Who would love this lineup?
NOW…. THERE IS ONE MORE POSSIBLE CHANGE FOR THIS LINEUP!
There’s a good chance 1B Munetaka Murakami gets posted THIS COMING OFFSEASON! IF SO… I pounce all over him if I am the Yankees. Say (BASED OFF CURRENT MLB CONTRACTS FOR JAPANESE BORN PLAYERS) 8 years $160 Million INCENTIVE LADEN DEAL (WHAT’S EPXECTED TO GET IT DONE)?
Then the Payroll is at $265 Million.
Now I trade away Torres dropping $10 MILLION MORE OFF THE PAYROLL.
The Payroll is now at $255 Million.
The lineup is now this:
- 2B DJ LaMahieu (R)
- CF Jasson Dominguez (S)
- RF Aaron Judge (R)
- LF Juan Soto (L)
- C Salvador Perez (R)
- 3B Ryan McMahon (L)
- DH Giancarlo Stanton (R)
- 1B Munetaka Murakami (L)
- SS Trey Sweeney (L)
How many Yankees fans would like this lineup? (NOTE IF MUERKAMI IS NOT POSTED YOU JUST KEEP RIZZO ANOTHER YEAR)
Now going back to it, the Rotation looks like this:
- LHP Blake Snell
- RHP Gerrit Cole
- LHP Carlos Rodon
- RHP Clarke Schmidt
- LHP Nestor Cortes
BY FAR THE BEST IN THE GAME! WOWZA.
The Bullpen looks like this WITH HADER ADDED IN:
- CP1: LHP Josh Hader
- CP2: RHP Clay Holmes
- SU1: RHP Mike King
- SU2: RHP Tommy Kahnle
- MR1: LHP Nick Ramirez
- MR2: RHP Johnathan Loaisiga
- MR3: LHP Matt Krook
- LR1: RHO Scott Efross
FINAL PAYROLL EVEN WITH ALL THESE CHANGES AND MINOR LEAGUE AND OTHER FEES ADDED IN: Around $280 Million
I then Fire Boone, and Offer Tony Pena the Manager Position!
HOW MANY GAMES DOES THIS ABSOLUTELY LO ADED TEAM WIN? What grade do you give this plan?
