How I Learned to Read Cashman and What He Will Do

Over the last 25 years I have been watching Yankees GM Brian Cashman very closely and thus have learned his tells.

One of his biggest being if he actually talks about a FA(Free Agents/Free Agency) then he’s not signing him period!

Take Many Machado. Bryce Harper, Patrick Corbin, Max Scherzer (2015), etc. for example. Cashman talked about ALL OF THEM openly and guess what? He didn’t sign one of them! this emphasizes the fact, Cashman never goes out of his way top talk about players as he has Carlos Correa and ever signed said player. IT NEVER HAPPENS!

In the reverse side of this, if Cashman flat out refuses to talk about a FA its most likely he’s already got a deal in place with him. Cashman will deflect questions in this case as he did with Masahiro Tanaka, Aroldis Chapman, Garrit Cole, CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, ETC. ETC. ETC. Cashman always goes out of his way to avoid even talking about players as he has with Seager, Ray, and a few others. He even deflected questions on trading for Olson, KETEL Marte, Luis Castillo, ETC.

This is not all…

Always watch extremely closely what Jack Curry says. When Jack Curry even calls a player a fit its INSTANTLY a 99.9% chance the Yankees sign or trade for said player. Same with Ken Rosenthal, Jeff Passan, Bob Klapicsh, and a few others.

Jack Curry is already mentioning Corey Seager as a great fit for the Yankees. Does say it's unknown whether the Yankees will spend big at SS or use a stop gap until Volpe/Peraza are ready, but read the tea leaves. Curry is the most tuned in to the organization

So with knowing this, and in paying close attention to this year’s FA period we are currently in, I can see EXACTLY what Cashman and the Yankees’ plan is!

Pay attention.

1st who is Cashman deflecting questions from and about and who is Cashman openly talking about?

Based off the answers there I can say the following:

1. The Yankees are not even talking to Carlos Correa and let alone signing him.
2. Semien is ranked higher then Correa on the Yankees list for sure.
3. The Yankees are 100% singing Corey Seager. I believe the deal is 100% complete and the Yankees are merely waiting to clear 40 man spots before letting it “BREAK”!
4. Cashman is working all out to finish 3+ trades.
5. Robbie Ray is the Yankees #1 pitching target!
6. Torres, Gio, Voit, Wade, Higgy, Andujar, Frazier, etc. are all on the chopping block.
7. The Yankees will increase their payroll to around $255 Million or more.
8. Cashman has MULTIPLE deals both in trade’s and FA set up already!
